The Engadin Ski Marathon Itinerary

Your guide will meet you in the arrivals hall at Zürich Airport, where the group transfer will depart at 15:00. The journey to Sils Maria takes approximately 3 hours. Guests unable to join the group transfer may travel independently to St. Moritz by train, where collection can be arranged. Please contact us before booking if you would like guidance on alternative travel options.

Arrive in the beautiful Engadine Valley and settle into the elegant surroundings of Hotel Schweizerhof in the heart of Sils Maria. Take time to explore the village, enjoy the spectacular mountain scenery, or relax before meeting your fellow guests.

This evening, join your Wildtrack Nordic hosts for a welcome briefing and dinner as we introduce the week ahead.

The week begins with a gentle introduction to the trails surrounding Sils Maria.

Morning coaching focuses on refining technique, building efficiency and developing confidence for longer days on snow. The emphasis is on skiing comfortably and economically across varied terrain.

In the afternoon, a scenic journey explores the trails around Sils and Silvaplana, providing a first opportunity to experience the broad open landscapes that define the Engadine Valley.

Today explores one of the most iconic sections of skiing anywhere in Europe.

After a short coaching session focused on efficiency and a deeper dive into skate 2 (which the majority of the route requires for relaxed but efficient skiing) the group heads onto the vast frozen lakes linking Maloja, Sils, Silvaplana and St. Moritz.

These famous lake crossings form some of the most recognisable sections of the Engadin Ski Marathon route and offer a unique opportunity to build familiarity with the terrain while enjoying extraordinary mountain scenery. The prolific local transport network allows us to journey to St Moritz, enjoy a well earned coffee and return to Sils by bus.

A change of scenery today, we begin in St Moritz and ski to the iconic Alpine town and home to the Engadin Ski Marathon Village of Pontresina, here we can stop and enjoy a relaxed lunch and soak up the atmosphere. Surrounded by glaciers, forests and the dramatic peaks of the Bernina Range, today's skiing introduces more varied terrain and longer sustained efforts. The journey develops confidence across changing terrain while showcasing some of the most spectacular winter scenery in the Swiss Alps.

Today combines skiing with discovery.

The route links several traditional villages across the Engadine Valley further along the route of the race itself, allowing guests to experience the cultural character that sits alongside the region's world-famous skiing.

Beautiful architecture, alpine history and spectacular mountain views accompany a rewarding day on the trails as the group continues to build endurance and confidence.

With marathon day approaching, attention turns towards final preparation.

A relaxed morning ski focuses on pacing, energy management and practical event-day considerations. We will also travel to Pontresina to collect our race bibs, and take the last chance to immerse ourselves into the increasingly party like atmosphere of the race village. There is also time to browse the shops in St Moritz if guests wish.

A special evening meal and final briefing provide the perfect conclusion to the preparation phase of the journey.

The highlight of the week.

Joining thousands of skiers from across the world, you'll take part in one of Nordic skiing's most celebrated events. Beginning in Maloja set amongst the frozen lakes of the Upper Engadine, the route winds through magnificent alpine scenery, traditional villages and snow-covered forests before reaching the finish.

Supported throughout by your Wildtrack Nordic team, this is more than simply an event. It is the culmination of a week spent exploring the Engadine Valley, refining your skiing and becoming part of one of Nordic skiing's great traditions.

Crossing the finish line marks the completion of an unforgettable Swiss winter journey.

From January to March, Sils Maria in the Engadine Valley experiences classic alpine winter conditions with cold temperatures, reliable snowfall and excellent cross-country skiing conditions. January is typically the coldest month, with average temperatures ranging from approximately -12°C to 2°C (10°F to 36°F).

February remains consistently snowy with crisp winter days and stable snow conditions, while March brings slightly milder temperatures and longer daylight hours. Despite the first signs of spring arriving, snow conditions often remain excellent, helped by the altitude of the Engadine Valley and the region’s dry mountain climate.

Breakfast is served buffet style, offering a generous selection of hot and cold options and the opportunity to prepare a packed lunch for your day on the trails. Evening meals are served as a three-course set menu, featuring a combination of regional specialities and international cuisine, with vegetarian and vegan options available.

Most dietary requirements can be catered for, including gluten-free, dairy-free, nut allergies, shellfish allergies and egg-free diets. Please advise us at the time of booking so arrangements can be made with the hotel. Drinks with evening meals are not included and can be purchased separately. Any additional snacks or refreshments during the day are at your own expense

Activity level: Moderate to challenging

Requires good fitness and confidence.

The Engadin Ski Marathon week is designed for confident cross-country skiers. Expect longer periods on snow as we explore the Engadine valley and rehearse sections of the race route. To note; the terrain is generally flat, so we will travel at a comfortable pace and the main physical consideration is the time on the skis not the steepness of the hills. Guests should arrive fit enough to recover comfortably between consecutive days of skiing. The race itself is generally flat, the tracks are wide and open, there are several rehydration and feeding stations along the route and guests are encouraged to enjoy the race and not worry about timings or positions. The whole event has a party like feel and the atmosphere is incredible - we want you to soak this up.

Skiing Experience: Improver to advanced

All skiers from improver level to advanced skiers will appreciate both the technical coaching delivered in the build up to the big day and the main event. The Engadine valley is mostly flat, so we major on developing a strong Skate 2 and 3, using long and flowing technique to maintain efficiency as we glide across the frozen lakes. The race itself is 43km long, the tracks are wide and there is plenty of room to ski, as Ski Marathons go this is amongst the easiest, both technically and physically.
